Share the experience

Returning students can help future students with the study abroad and exchange experience by creating a profile of their time overseas. Our existing student profiles provide invaluable advice, useful insights and wonderful inspiration for students who are unsure about whether study abroad and exchange is worthwhile. We encourage returning students to contact the Faculty Global Mobility Officer to contribute a profile to our collection.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

How do I get credit for my studies taken overseas?

Students need to have their academic study plan approved as part of the application process. The proposed course plan needs to fulfill all course requirements within a reasonable timeframe. Students should check the Melbourne Global Mobility website for information about choosing subjects for credit.

Students need to gain more subjects approved for credit than needed to take into account changes in subject availability and timetable changes. For example, if a student is required to enrol in 5 subjects at the host institution, the student should gain approval for 8-10 subjects. This provides flexibility for the student and removes the stress of arranging this process overseas. Once a student’s study plan has been approved, this will be placed on file until the student returns.

Credit points (not individual subjects or grades) are recorded on a student's University of Melbourne academic transcript. Read the information about returning student transcripts on the Melbourne Global Mobility website.
