Concurrent Diplomas
Concurrent Diplomas are available to current students enrolled in the New Generation Bachelors (including Engineering from 2008 onwards).

Policy
Course Structure
The concurrent diplomas are 100 points of study equivalent to a major study sequence from first to third year. This is studied concurrently alongside the 300 points required for the students Bachelors (400 for BE).
Note that up to 50 points can be credited from the Bachelors to the Diploma meaning that students can complete with anywhere from 350 to 400 points overall (450 – 500 for BE).
Entry Requirements
- Diploma in Mathematical Sciences: VCE Maths Methods (or equivalent) and competitive academic history.
- Diploma in Informatics: Competitive academic history (no subject pre-requisites).
Applications must be approved by both the faculty administering the diploma and the faculty administering the student's Bachelors degree.
Application
Students can apply at any time during their Bachelors; however are advised not to apply until ready to commence subjects as part of the Diploma enrolment. For example, if choosing to cross credit, students should not apply for the Diploma until they are ready to undertake a subject that will not fit into the Bachelors under the cross crediting rules.
Alternatively students should apply at the commencement of first year if they do not wish to cross credit.
- Local students apply via the SIS.
- International students apply via International Admission form (submit form directly to Science Student Centre, no application fee required)
Fast Tracking
An accelerated progression through the degree (ie finishing 350 points in 3 years) is called fast tracking and is subject to the normal overload rules.
Students will only be permitted to commence an overloaded program of 62.5 points if they have an average in their first year of 70% (H2B) with no failed subjects. Students will not be permitted to overload in their first year (refer to the Workload Policy for more details). Continued overload is also subject to conditions set out in Workload Policy (PDF).
Both the Bachelors and Diploma faculties must agree to the overload.
HECS exemption
Students enrolled on a CSP basis who are undertaking the Diploma in Mathematical Sciences are entitled to complete the final 50 points of the Diploma without incurring the HECS debt for those subjects.
Students may contact the Science Student Centre for more assistance.
