Guidelines
Students are advised to:
- Read the information about leave of absence, deferral and discontinuing a course.
- Contact the Science Student Centre to discuss options.
- Apply:
- Leave of Absence: apply in writing or complete the online Application for Leave of Absence on the SIS (exceptions apply to international students, Bachelor of Law/Bachelor of Science, Honours and Postgraduate Diploma students – see the Application exceptions information below).
- Discontinuation: apply in writing or complete a discontinuation form (available at the Science Student Centre).
- Deferral: read the Deferral policy for instructions on how to apply.
Failure to apply
Students who fail to apply for a break from study may face:
- liability for course fees
- accumulation of fail grades for each subject deemed to be incomplete
- termination of enrolment.
Toward the end of a break from study, student should contact the Science Student Centre for assistance with their course planning.
Application exceptions
International students and students in the Bachelor of Science/ Bachelor of Law
- The online application is not relevant. Students are advised to contact the Science Student Centre.
Students in Honours and students in the Postgraduate Diploma in Science
- The online application is not relevant.
- Students may download the Request to Vary Honours or PGDipSc Enrolment form (PDF : 83KB). This needs to be endorsed and signed by the coordinator in the relevant department before being submitted to the Science Student Centre.
As the Summer Semester is optional, there is no need for students to take Leave of Absence.
