Break from study
Students who have commenced a university course and decide to take a break from study have a few options:
- Apply for a 'leave of absence (LOA)' from a course
- LOA enables a student who is currently enrolled to take a break from their studies and have a guaranteed place in the course when they return from leave.
- 'Discontinue' from a course
- Discontinuation will permanently cancel a student's enrolment in a course which is currently being undertaken. A student needs to reapply and undergo competitive re-assessment to resume studies in future if the course is available.
- Apply for a 'deferral' of a course
- Deferral may be an option for commencing students who have not confirmed their enrolment in the course they have been offered. Depending on the course, a student can defer for up to one year.
